AMA Foundation honors Kent Brantly

Fort Worth-trained physician Dr. Kent Brantly, who survived the deadly viral disease Ebola and helped others recover from it, received an American Medical Association (AMA) Foundation 2015 Excellence in Medicine Award.

Brantly received the Dr. Nathan Davis International Award in Medicine, which honors a physician for outstanding international service in the areas of medical practice, medical education or medical research. A $2,500 grant was presented to Samaritan’s Purse.

Brantly worked as a medical missionary at ELWA Hospital in Monrovia, Liberia, from October 2013 to August 2014. That summer, he joined the front lines of the battle against the deadliest Ebola outbreak in history when Samaritan’s Purse took responsibility for clinical care of all Liberian Ebola patients.

Brantly was appointed medical director for the only Ebola treatment unit in southern Liberia. He was diagnosed with Ebola in July 2014 and several days later received the first dose of the experimental drug Zmapp. He then was the first American evacuated for treatment in the United States at Emory University Hospital. After his recover, he donated plasma to help others stricken with Ebola, including Dallas nurses Nina Pham and Amber Vinson, fellow ELWA Hospital physician and SIM missionary Dr. Rick Sacra, and cameraman Ashoka Mukpo.

Enilon hired Erin Naterman as its new account service manager. Naterman has 16 years of experience in brand management, marketing, advertising, public relations, cross promotions and consumer packaged goods. Previously, she worked for Schaefer Advertising Co. and RadioShack and owned Naterman Public Relations.

Amanda Deering joined Balcom Agency as junior art director and video specialist after working at the agency as an intern since October 2013. Prior to Balcom, she was creative director of skiff x 360, Texas Christian University’s weekly newspaper, and as a graphic designer at Roxo, a student-led marketing agency at TCU.

PSK LLP promoted Marie Bosillo to partner. Bosillo, a certified public accountant, joined the firm in 2007 and her main service area is audit.

Century A/C Supply recently opened in Fort Worth, at 4600 Airport Freeway. The new location, Century’s 20th store in Texas, is managed by Jerry Harrison, who previously was assistant manager of the Dallas store and has been with Century for more than seven years. Allen Tabor, who has been with Century for two years in the Houston area, also serves customers out of the Fort Worth location.

Sheri Murrell is the manager of the new SporTherapy Northwest in Lake Worth. Cassie and Steve Lackey are owners of the outpatient physical therapy service provider, which has five locations in Tarrant and Parker counties.

Honors & Awards

Michael Ruelas was named Officer of the Year for 2014 by the Fort Worth Police Officers’ Award Foundation. The honor for Commander of the Year went to Pedro Criado. Charla Smith and Mark Windsor were honored with the Dwayne Freeto Service with Respect Award. Other award winners were Kirby Proffitt, Central Northwest Command; Edward Donnelly, Southeast Command; Derrick Lopez, Specialized Units; and Gilbert Banda, Supervisor of the Year.

Lyndsay A. Newell joined The Barrows Firm as an associate. Newell specializes in family law and is experienced in real estate, appellate law and general civil litigation. She is a member of the American Inns of Court, the State Bar of Texas’ Family Law Section, the Tarrant County Bar Association and the Tarrant County Family Law Bar Association.

Manufacturing

Demilec named Paul Valle chief executive officer. With more than 25 years of experience in the manufacturing and building products industry, Valle will lead Demilec’s efforts to gain market share in the United States and Canada as well as the brand’s increased focus on developing products for a variety of niche vertical industries. Valle was president of CertainTeed Corp.’s Insulation Group and president of Silver Line Building Products, the vinyl windows and doors division of Andersen Corp.

Simple Moving Labor LLC added Scott Wallace as chief financial officer. Along with oversight of the accounting department, financial reporting, financial management and budgeting, Wallace also will develop and oversee financial strategy and planning. He worked for various private and publicly traded companies since 2009 as a chief accounting officer, controller and director of financial reporting. Prior to 2009, he served almost eight years as senior manager in the audit practice of Deloitte in the Houston office. He also owns the full-service accounting firm of Wallace CPA PLLC. A certified public accountant, he is licensed in Texas and Oklahoma.

Nonprofit Organizations

Goodwill Industries of Fort Worth Inc. appointed Romney Guy as a new vice president of workforce development. Guy will develop, implement, administer and direct all activities related to workforce development, outreach initiatives and programs, vocational evaluation, the North Texas Institute and grant administration. She will also oversee the development and administration of rehabilitative services, training and job placement services. Guy worked for Goodwill of North Louisiana for more than 15 years, most recently as chief operating officer. While there, she graduated from the Goodwill Industries International executive development program. Guy has been recognized with multiple awards, including the CDC Metro Leadership Award, the Community Foundation Return on Investment Award and the Annie E. Casey National Award. She has served on the Chairmen of Mayors Women’s Commission for more than two years, as chairman on the Voluntary Organizations Assisting in Disaster board and as a member of the Thinking to Action Committee in Washington, D.C.

Fort Worth Can Academies hired Vincent Nelson as the development director. With two decades of combined experience as a community and parochial leader and financial strategist, Nelson will lead the educational organization’s fundraising and community outreach programs. For 17 years, Nelson served as pastor of several churches. He has created for-profit businesses to fund orphanages and churches and has raised millions of dollars to support local city and church efforts. Nelson comes to Texans Can Academies from Fidelity Investments, where he was an investment leader and financial adviser.

Tourism, Entertainment & Leisure

The Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show promoted three full-time staff members and hired a new staff member. Bruce E. McCarty, former horse show manager since 1995, was promoted to executive vice president. The position had been vacant since 2010, when Bradford S. Barnes was appointed to general manager and later named president and general manager upon the retirement of W. R. Watt Jr.

The former assistant operations manager, Lauren Lovelace, was promoted to horse show manager. Lovelace was hired as the horse show secretary in 2005 and promoted to assistant horse show manager in 2010. Lovelace is the 2015-2016 Fort Worth Farm & Ranch Club president, co-chairman for the Young Guns with the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, and secretary/treasurer of the Citizens Support Group for the Fort Worth Mounted Patrol. She serves on the American Quarter Horse Association Marketing Committee. Former social media manager Cal White was promoted to assistant operations manager. White came to the Stock Show in 2009 from the Amarillo Tri-State Fair and Rodeo, where he was its marketing director. He is the immediate past president of the Fort Worth Farm & Ranch Club.

Jordan Simons is the new social media manager and has worked as a seasonal employee since 2012 in various capacities, including commercial exhibits, social media, the Stock Show’s Art Contest and “Behind the Chutes” tours for special guests and group sales.

The former Cruise Holidays of Southlake boutique travel store has rebranded to be Shangri-La World Travel, a partner of Signature Travel Network. Shangri-La World Travel is a full-service agency providing customized travel management for land and sea.
