The Texas Rangers Baseball Club received the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce Vandergriff Award during the annual State of the County address on Thursday.

Kellie Fischer, executive vice president and CFO of the Texas Rangers, accepted the award on behalf of the baseball franchise. The event was held at Worthington Renaissance Fort Worth Hotel.

The Vandergriff Award is presented annually to a legacy individual or organization whose contributions have positively impacted Tarrant County on a national scale.

“My colleagues and the Rangers ownership group, we are truly honored to receive this award,” Fischer said. “And it is something very special for us.”

The award was established in 2011 in memory of Tom Vandergriff, former Tarrant County judge and Arlington Mayor. Vandergriff was instrumental in bringing Major League Baseball to North Texas in 1972 in the form of Texas Rangers.

“Without Tom Vandergriff, there is no Texas Rangers baseball team,” Fischer said. “So that is really meaningful to us. And we are thrilled to have called Tarrant County our home for the last 47 years and even more thrilled to say Tarrant County will be our home for decades to come.”

The Texas Rangers has won seven American League West titles, and won the American League pennant in 2010 and 2011.

At the end of the current season, Texas Rangers will leave the 25-year-old Globe Life Park in Arlington and will move across the street to the new Globe Life Field, a $1.2 billion stadium.
