AZZ has announced they are opening a new powder coating facility in Crowley, which will feature the largest duplex coating cure oven in the nation.
“Powder coating is an important strategic initiative for AZZ that expands the offerings in our metal coatings business,” Tim Pendley, senior vice president and chief operating officer of AZZ Metal Coatings, said in a news release. “Our customers will now have additional options including broadened corrosion protection and the ability to deliver on projects with specialized color requirements.”
Powder coating is the process of covering an object with polyester or epoxy powder and heating it, causing a protective layer to be formed. According to Corrosionpedia, duplex coating is the process of combining the protective coating process of galvanization with an additional power coating process. This dual process can extend the objects ability to withstand corrosive substances, helping the object last longer, and in some cases, improves the objects life and maintenance cycle as well.
AZZ is known as a global provider of galvanizing services, among other things from welding, power generation, and transmission to distribution and industrial markets. Their new facility in Crowley, which will utilize PowderGALV technology for duplex metal coating, is their first power coating operation, and will also include a 60-ft. cure oven. This facility will be adjacent to their hot dip galvanizing plant.
“As the largest North American galvanizer with 41 plants, we believe powder coating can help us to expand our reach into another segment of the metal corrosion protection market allowing our customers to be even more efficient in servicing their end-user customers,” Pendley said. “We are dedicated to expand our metal corrosion capabilities, expand our addressable markets and continue to leverage our unmatched quality and superior customer service.”
