Fort Worth natives and Locust Cider co-owners Patrick and Jason Spears are bringing their Washington-based award-winning cidery and taproom to the Near Southside.
Locust Cider is moving into M2G Ventures’ newest development at 710 S. Main St. and will build on the craft drink culture already in the area. Locust Cider will be Fort Worth’s first cidery, according to a news release from M2G.
Locust Cider will be the first tenant in the renovated 1940’s building. M2G plans to begin construction this winter.
Washington state is the most competitive cider market in the nation, according to the release, and Locust Cider was named one of GQ Magazine’s “2016 best hard ciders.”
The co-owners hope to work with local craft breweries to make Locust Cider’s Fort Worth taproom “a creative and industrial environment for Near Southsiders and visitors to learn, taste-test, socialize and help brainstorm the next great flavor.”
“Being the only cider in town brings a new element to a growing and thriving craft beverage scene,” Spears said in the release. “In some cities like Seattle there are a dozen or more cideries, and hard cider is an everyday mainstream drink. Locust wants to open the world of cider to Fort Worth.”
Keeping their brand inspiration is important to the cidery co-owners and the apples needed for the cider will be sourced from Washington, allowing Locust Cider to bring its signature flavors and drinks to North Texas. But they do plan to create and offer limited batches of Texas apple-infused ciders that use multiple ingredients sourced from Texas such as honey, cherries and vanilla beans.
The 710 South Main building in Near Southside has three ground floor spaces and a second-floor office space for lease. M2G Ventures’ plans includes a focus on chef-driven dining, juice bar and artisanal retail. – FWBP Staff
