Rev. Ryon L. Price, 40, will become Broadway Baptist Church’s senior pastor, the church announced Aug. 13.

The announcement follows a year-long, national search led by a nine-member committee appointed by the congregation. Price follows Dan Day of North Carolina, interim senior pastor, in the pulpit and begins his tenure Sept. 1, with his first sermon scheduled Sept. 10.

Price is currently senior pastor of Second Baptist Church in Lubbock. He will be Broadway Baptist’s 22nd senior pastor.

“Ryon has a reputation for providing strong organizational leadership, spiritual formation to diverse bodies of faith and a talent for pastoral care,” said Gary Smith, Pastor Search Committee chairman and a former chairman of the Broadway Board of Deacons. “Prominent national leaders in the Baptist faith have described him as insightful, bright, curious and authentic, and they say he is one of the finest young ministers in the country.”

Price has served as senior minister at Second Baptist in Lubbock since 2010 and previously served as pastor of United Church of Colchester in Vermont, and as associate pastor of children and youth at Lowe’s Grove Baptist Church in Durham.

Price earned his Master of Divinity degree magna cum laude from Duke Divinity School, one of the nation’s premier theological seminaries, and an undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University. He holds a certificate in theology from Christ Church at Oxford University in England.

Following divinity school, Price served as a congressional intern to former Rep. Randy Neugebauer, R-Lubbock. He has served on a host of Lubbock community task forces and nonprofit boards.

Price and his wife, Irie Price, a have three young children.
