Letter to the editor: Merle has gone home but the voice lives on

Turn me loose somewhere in the middle of Montana,

Gimme all I’ve got coming to me.

Keep your retirement and so-called Social Security.

Big City, turn me loose and set me free.

It’s a long, hard road from San Quentin Prison to Glory Land, but now Merle Haggard has been turned loose and set free somewhere in the middle of Paradise where he’ll surely receive a “Well Done, Thou good and faithful writer and singer of Country-Western music. Enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”

He’s gone from us, but that great Country-Western voice will be heard on Earth forever. I can hear it right now.

The roots of my raising run deep.

The Good Times are not over for good.

Today I started loving you again.

Sing me back home before I die.
