Charles Holley has been appointed independent senior advisor to Deloitte LLP’s U.S. CFO Program, a role that sees the former Wal-Mart chief financial officer serve as an independent adviser for the New York-based tax, consulting and financial advisory services firm.

Also known as “CFO-in-residence,” the position sees Holley help fulfill what Deloitte calls its vision “to be recognized as the preeminent advisor to the CFO.”

“Charles has a caliber of experience that few others can claim, and I’m simply thrilled he has joined Deloitte as our ‘CFO-in-residence,’” said Sanford A. Cockrell III, national managing partner, U.S. CFO Program, Deloitte LLP, in a news release.

“He will make an immediate impact by validating our offerings and capabilities, while making them more tangible through his CFO experiences,” Cockrell said.

Locally, Deloitte operates Deloitte University in Westlake north of Fort Worth.

In his new role, Holley will serve as associate dean and CFO speaker at Deloitte’s Next Generation CFO Academies, attending multiple CFO forums, among other events. Holley also will participate in Deloitte’s quarterly CFO Signals survey, biweekly CFO Insights series CFO Lens app and write a regular column for the Deloitte module of CFO Journal.

Holley served as CFO of Walmart from December 2010 to January 2016. During his tenure, he helped build Walmart’s financial position while driving shareholder returns. He helped oversee accounting and control, corporate strategy and development, business planning and analysis, internal auditing, treasury, tax and several other key areas of the company, according to Deloitte.

Before working at Wal-Mart, Holley served RadioShack (then known as Tandy Corp.) as managing director for its European Memorex division and served as director of finance for its international operations. More information is available at www.deloitte.com/usthecfoprogram.
