Fort Worth civic leader Walter Rainwater is the first recipient of the North Texas Community Foundation’s new Insight & Vision Award.
Rainwater received the award on Aug. 29 for his contribution to children in the Morningside neighborhood, a distressed community of about 8,000 residents on the southeast side of Fort Worth.
With the help of a planning grant from the Rainwater Charitable Foundation and the Sid Richardson Foundation, the Morningside Children’s Partnership was formed in 2012 to help revitalize the neighborhood. Partnerships with the city, local businesses, organizations and churches are helping the neighborhood improve educational outcomes for children, provide better access to health care, establish a safe environment, and increase parental and community involvement.
“Thanks to Mr. Rainwater’s vision and insight, today the Morningside Children’s Partnership serves more than 7,000 children,” said Nancy Jones, president and CEO of the North Texas Community Foundation said.
The award was presented to Rainwater at the foundation’s event, Four Mayors of Fort Worth: An Evening of Insight & Vision. The event gathered Fort Worth’s four current and former living mayors for a panel presentation to discuss what it takes to build a great community.
