For anyone who is desperately awaiting both the potential fifth season of beloved cult comedy “Arrested Development” and the upcoming and last 2016 presidential debate, your calls have been answered.
An intrepid YouTube user named NeverCaesar created a hilarious, perfect mash-up of the show’s iconic jokes, including Ron Howard’s dry, observational narration, with the first presidential debate.
It included everything from the show’s famous “footage not found” gag – in which a character lies about something that’s occurred and, instead of showing that event, the screen goes blank – to its “next time on ‘Arrested Development’ scene” tacked on at the end. It has even got a “Mr. F” reference, for the show’s more dedicated fans. All over the show’s classic twinkly music.
The clip was wholly focused on mocking Republican nominee Donald Trump, which fairly clearly exposed NeverCaesar’s politics, but it included one semi-shot at Democrat Hillary Clinton’s repetition of the phrase “Trumped-up trickle down” from the first debate.
Howard and “Arrested Development” creator Mitch Hurwitz don’t appear to have been involved with making the video, but both tweeted it from their personal accounts.
Hurwitz even joked that it was a “sneak preview of . . . season 5″ and thanked NeverCaesar.
