Linear Labs announced the launch Sept. 9 of the newest iteration of the company’s patented high-torque HET motor, created specifically for micromobility uses, including in the growing e-scooters market.

When tested, the HET provided 123 percent more torque compared to the Segway Ninebot ES4 motor, an industry-standard competitor, Linear Labs said in the announcement.

“Micromobility is the second phase of our production plan, which began with electric car propulsion and will soon be available to the HVAC and industrial industries,” said Brad Hunstable, founder and CEO of Fort Worth-based Linear Labs.

“We are now able to offer superior torque for yet another industry. The implications are staggering. The growing micromobility space is going to benefit from our developments not only in overall efficiency but in customer satisfaction, as well. These improvements in performance will benefit consumers with the ability for longer range and more power to climb steep grades in ways currently not feasible,” Hunstable said.

The HET tests produced peak torque of 38 Nm vs. the Segway’s 17 Nm. This is more than double the peak torque, adjusted for the same volumetric and mass power density, the news release said.

Linear Labs micromobility motor is scalable for other micro-applications, including HET motors scaled larger for e-bicycle and moped uses.

In support of this new technology, some of the brightest minds in venture capital have recently invested in Linear Labs, during a $4.5 million seed round led by Science Inc. and Kindred Ventures, with participation from investors Chris and Crystal Sacca, Saltwater Ventures, Dynamic Signal CEO Russ Fradin, and former Masergy CEO Chris MacFarland, as well as Ustream co-founder Dr. Gyula Feher, the company said in the news release.

Linear Labs is a smart electric motor company founded in 2014 to provide world-changing solutions for the electric power industry, the news release said.
