DALLAS (AP) — Severe thunderstorms packing winds of up to 90 mph tore through the Dallas-Fort Worth area, causing widespread damage and leaving up to 125,000 electric utility customers in the dark.
Fast-moving storms left widespread damage and power outages Thursday afternoon across North Texas. Winds downed utility poles and large tree limbs.
Aerial video showed that winds ripped the roof from a large building on the Arlington Baptist College campus. A brick wall toppled onto parked cars in Fort Worth’s historic Stockyards. Numerous sheet metal sheds were mangled, and a limb crushed an unoccupied car in eastern Fort Worth.
The electric utility Oncor reported 125,000 customers lost power in the immediate aftermath of the storms. Service had been restored to about 25,000 customers within an hour of the storm.
