AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The Texas unemployment rate for June has held steady since May and remains at 6.5 percent. The Texas Workforce Commission on Friday announced the statewide seasonally adjusted figure compares to the U.S. jobless rate of 7.6 percent last month. TWC officials in Austin say Texas added 5,800 seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs in June for a total of about 303,000 jobs added since a year ago. Chairman Andres Alcantar says economic growth in Texas has proven to be diverse, consistent and long term. The Midland area had the lowest June unemployment rate statewide at 3.7 percent. The McAllen-Edinburg-Mission area had the highest jobless rate last month at 11.6 percent.
