AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — University of Texas regents meet Thursday to review the performance of campus presidents and possibly elect new board officers.
The regents are scheduled to spend much of the day in private to discuss performance evaluations of the presidents of the system’s nine universities. Austin campus President Bill Powers has feuded with some regents for more than two years.
But state lawmakers are investigating whether to impeach regent Wallace Hall, one of Powers’ fiercest critics. Lawmakers have warned regents not to take “adverse action” against possible witnesses in that investigation, including Powers.
Powers will not be at the meeting because he is on a family vacation.
The board agenda also includes a possible late afternoon election of new officers. Regent Gene Powell has been chairman since February 2011.
