THR ready for $300M expansion.
A wrecking ball was flying at Texas Health Fort Worth on Tuesday as the hospital begins its largest construction project in history. Construction crews removed a parking garage to make room for the Jane and John Justin Patient Surgical Tower, part of a $300 million expansion that features a nine-story patient bed tower and major modernization of surgical services.
The new surgical patient tower will add 144 patient beds and a new pre-operative and post-operative services area to the Texas Health Fort Worth campus. The ground breaking for that event is this fall. The expected completion date is 2021.
The site is at Cooper Street and S. Henderson Street. It’s across the street from the Ben Hogan Center..
Opened as a small community hospital in 1930, today Texas Health Fort Worth has 720 beds and is the fourth-busiest hospital in the state. The new project will add 15 surgical suites and 144 more beds.
“With this new tower, we’re expanding our capacity for more complex procedures and advanced care, which lets people in Fort Worth and nearby communities stay close to home when they need care,” said Barclay Berdan, FACHE, CEO of Texas Health said in March. “It’s about responding to the needs of the people we serve. This is an investment that will have a positive economic impact on the city but, more importantly, it will benefit the people in the communities we serve.”
“We’re doubling down on our commitment to the people of Fort Worth and throughout Tarrant County,” said Wes Turner, chairman of the Texas Health Resources Board of Trustees and a longtime Fort Worth resident and former publisher of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “We’ve been a partner with the local community since our doors opened in 1930, and with this investment that relationship is going to continue for decades to come.”
