DENTON, Texas — AMON! The Ultimate Texan, the award-winning one-man play about legendary Texas media mogul Amon G. Carter, launches its 2025 season with a doubleheader on June 7 at the Lyric Theatre in the Murchison Performing Arts Center on the University of North Texas campus.
Known as “Mr. Fort Worth,” Carter was a Texas powerhouse who owned the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, WBAP radio, and TV’s Channel 5.
In this true-to-life comedic tribute, Carter’s legendary disdain for the neighboring city of Dallas — which he mockingly called “Little D” — provides a hilarious and recurring theme throughout the show.
The Denton performances, scheduled for 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., mark the 60th and 61st shows since the play’s premiere in 2019. The performances are sponsored by the Denton Record-Chronicle.
See www.AmonPlay.com for tickets and information.
Written by Dave Lieber, The Watchdog columnist for The Dallas Morning News, the play has entertained thousands across Texas with its sharp wit and historical charm. “The DFW rivalry turns out to be funny,” Lieber says.
“Now that Fort Worth has officially topped one million residents, there’s an even bigger audience ready to discover — or rediscover — this unforgettable Texas legend.”
Kelvin Dilks stars as Carter, with Connie Sanchez directing.
Following Denton, the 2025 season will continue with performances in Bowie (Carter’s hometown), Grapevine, and Keller. For tickets and the full tour schedule, visit AmonPlay.com.
