MTU Maintenance Signs 30-Year Lease with the City of Fort Worth to Expand its Presence at Perot Field

MTU Maintenance Fort Worth announces a 30-year lease contract with the City of Fort Worth to expand its North American footprint at Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport (AFW). As part of its long-term investment strategy outlined in its 2050 plan, MTU will invest $120 million to modernize and upgrade its 43,000-square-meter facility.

As announced by CFM International and GE Aerospace in April, MTU will be adding CFM LEAP and GEnx maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services to its portfolio in the United States. These agreements will see MTU’s site in Fort Worth, Texas, develop from an on-site service center to full disassembly, assembly and test facility. It also expands the depth and scope of MTU’s engine MRO solutions worldwide. The company offers customized MRO, leasing and asset management services for a portfolio of over 30 engine types and serves over 1,100 customers around the world.

MTU’s expansion with the City of Fort Worth will have a direct economic impact, bringing 1,200 highly skilled new jobs to the region and up to 2,000 indirect jobs in services, logistics and infrastructure. MTU is targeting significant growth in North America, and this site in Fort Worth will be key in its strategy.

“MTU is taking things to the next level with a triple-digit million US dollar investment in our Fort Worth-based site. To underscore this strategic shift, the facility will be renamed MTU Maintenance Fort Worth,” says Gernot Sell, Managing Director, MTU Maintenance Fort Worth. This will take effect from 1st September, 2025, pending approvals from regulatory bodies and authorities. To date, the facility had been named MTU Maintenance Dallas. “We have a clear business strategy for regional collaboration, are committed to job creation and both excited and prepared for significant growth.”

“MTU’s strategic expansion with the City of Fort Worth will continue to cement our city as a leading aviation hub,” said Marilyn Marvin, Property Management Director of the City of Fort Worth. “MTU’s continued investment in its operations will bring thousands of jobs to North Texas and provide an opportunity to collaborate with universities in ways that promote local talent development and continued training for Fort Worth’s highly-skilled workforce.

Since moving to its new 43,000 square meter facility in Fort Worth, Texas, in 2023, MTU Maintenance, the global market leader in customized service solutions for aero engines, has been continually expanding its services and quick turn portfolio and preparing for further development. The site boasts excellent infrastructure for maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) operations, including an engine test facility with up to 100,000 lbs. of thrust.

“MTU’s revolution into MTU Maintenance Fort Worth marks a pivotal moment not only for the company but for the entire AllianceTexas ecosystem,” said Christopher Ash, Senior Vice President of Aviation Business Development. “This investment underscores MTU’s long-term commitment to Fort Worth and the significant growth happening at Perot Field. As one of the soon-to-be largest engine maintenance and testing facilities in North America, MTU Maintenance Fort Worth will be a powerful force for economic growth—bringing thousands of high-quality jobs, attracting top-tier aviation talent, and reinforcing our region’s position as a global leader in aerospace innovation.”
