Quorum Architects, the Fort Worth commercial architecture and interior design firm, announces the hiring of Michael Massu. Massu recently earned his Master of Architecture from the University of Texas at Arlington after completing his Bachelors in 2022.
Born in Panama and growing up in Honduras, Massu recognized as a young boy that the quality of architecture and construction in the region was somewhat lacking. His desire to learn the ins and outs of constructing safe, visually interesting, functional buildings drove him to seek an education in Texas, where his brother was studying aerospace engineering.
In his role as Architectural Intern at Quorum, Massu is assisting the municipal team with the design of a new public work and parks operations complex and a water district administration building. Additionally, the firm will put Massu’s 3D modeling expertise to good use, helping clients better visualize their finished projects.
“Michael is a great addition to the staff – he brings a unique creative perspective and an excellent skill set,” says Principal, David Duman. “He’s already demonstrated his ability to quickly develop site concept solutions and work collaboratively on multiple project teams.”
As a boy in a country where opportunities can be limited, Massu managed to find plenty of ways to excel. By age 16, he was a starting player on the Honduran National Basketball and Volleyball teams. At 12 years old he taught himself a 3-D modeling application used by professionals and modeled his family’s house. It was his interest in 3-D modeling combined with his artistic talent, evident from the time he could grip a pencil, that drew him to architecture.
“Everyone in our family dreams big – I never felt limited by my situation,” Massu says. “I am realizing my professional goals with the municipal design team at Quorum.”
Massu’s father and two brothers are all business owners in Honduras. His sister studied filmmaking at Savannah School of Art and Design and is seeking an opportunity with the burgeoning film industry in North Texas.
Future goals have Massu pursuing LEED Accreditation from the U.S. Green Building Council followed by Professional Architecture Licensure. We have every confidence he will achieve these goals and so much more.
