Community Invited to Participate in Oct. 4 Rally and New EmpowerHER Market
What: Hundreds of girls and community members will gather on Saturday, Oct. 4 to celebrate International Day of the Girl. Girls Inc. of Tarrant County (GITC) invites the media and the community to join the festivities at Texas Wesleyan University.
This free, annual, family-friendly event will showcase the talent and leadership of local girls through a high-energy pep rally, performances from area drumlines and hands-on activities. It will also mark the debut of the EmpowerHER Market, giving attendees a chance to shop local, women-owned businesses and support young entrepreneurs.
In the past, the Day of the Girl celebration has been held in downtown Fort Worth during the week. This is the first time the event will be held on a Saturday, making it a more family-friendly atmosphere. In addition to celebrating Day of the Girl, this is an opportunity for GITC to share information about their signature, year-round Future Ready and Entrepreneurship programs, which prepare girls to thrive in school, career and life. From STEM exploration and financial literacy to public speaking and first-job readiness, these programs build a strong local pipeline of future leaders.
“Day of the Girl is our favorite snapshot of what girls can do when a community believes in them,” said Jennifer Limas, President and CEO of Girls Inc. of Tarrant County. “We see girls who are strong, smart, bold, resilient, curious, collaborative and compassionate. They are ready to lead, and this event gives everyone a chance to cheer them on.”
**The United Nations recognizes the International Day of the Girl, as a day when groups come together under the shared goal of supporting opportunities for girls everywhere.
