University announces historic $40 million philanthropic investment, in addition to more than $5 million in previous support, from the fifth-generation Texan, and Texas Christian University alumna and TCU parent
Texas Christian University today announced that the College of Science & Engineering (CSE) will be named the Louise Dilworth Davis College of Science & Engineering in honor of Louise Dilworth Davis ’77 and her extraordinary generosity to the university and the college.
Louise Dilworth Davis of San Antonio has given $40 million, the largest philanthropic investment in the college’s 25-year history, to support CSE’s strategic plan and operations in perpetuity. The gift will also endow the deanship, which will now be named the Louise Dilworth Davis Dean. “It gives me immense joy to support TCU’s next chapter of growth and serving students,” Davis said. “As an alum and mother of a Horned Frog who works as a scientist today, I want to ensure future generations of support for the university while celebrating Chancellor Pullin’s leadership, his Values in Action strategic plan, and CSE Dean Dwayne McCay’s strategic priorities for the TCU College of Science & Engineering. Together, we are shaping an exciting future for TCU and enhancing research excellence for students, faculty and staff.”
“The impact of Mrs. Davis’s generosity supports Horned Frogs today and for generations to come. Because of her transformational gift to the new Louise Dilworth Davis College of Science & Engineering at TCU, there will be more values-driven and qualified scientists, engineers, researchers, astronauts and doctors ready to lead in a rapidly changing world,“ TCU Chancellor Daniel W. Pullin said. “Her inspired gift is a legacy that will power real change in the world as well as TCU’s community and ambitious strategic plan. I am personally humbled by the timing of this gift with LEAD ON: Values in Action Week, and I can think of no better way to show values in action than to invest so meaningfully in our students.”
Davis previously made significant gifts of more than $5 million to support TCU student scholarships and endowed faculty and programs in the College of Science & Engineering.
“Mrs. Davis’s gift sends a powerful message to the TCU community that our academic experience, the quality of our students and the excellence of our teaching and scholarly pursuits are second to none,” TCU Provost Floyd L. Wormley Jr. said. “This investment by a TCU alumna and Horned Frog family in the College of Science & Engineering accelerates undergraduate and graduate research and investment in professions like engineering, computer sciences, pre-health pathways and other areas of growth for TCU. With this gift, our mission for education, innovation and service has an even stronger trajectory into the future.”
