World Affairs Council Launches 2025 CEO Series with Aviation Pioneer Steven F. Udvar-Házy

The World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth will launch its 2025 CEO Series on December 3 with
“From Refugee to Aviation Pioneer: The Leadership Journey of Steven F. Udvar-Házy,” featuring one of the most
influential figures in modern aviation. The event will spotlight Udvar-Házy’s extraordinary journey from refugee to
visionary business leader and philanthropist.
The CEO Series explores the success and stories of people who have captured the coveted and consequential role
of CEO – leaders who shape global markets and influence the world stage far beyond their boardrooms. These are
the veteran decision makers and master strategists who define our economic landscape.
As Founder of International Lease Finance Corporation and Executive Chairman of Air Lease Corporation, Udvar
Házy built one of the world’s largest aircraft leasing companies, transforming a single plane into a $16 billion global
fleet. Widely regarded as the father of the aircraft leasing industry, his career has redefined how airlines operate and
how the world travels.
A refugee from communist Hungary, Udvar-Házy was guided by mentors including Bob Six and Herb Kelleher as he
pioneered innovative financing models that reshaped global aviation. In conversation with Matt Byrd, President and
CEO of Hillwood Aviation, he will reflect on lessons in leadership, scaling international enterprises, and maintaining
company culture through rapid growth. He will also share insights from his philanthropic work, including his
transformational gift establishing the Smithsonian’s Udvar-Hazy Center, home to the Space Shuttle Discovery and
other iconic aircraft.
“This series gives audiences rare access to the minds of global business leaders who have built, led, and
transformed industries,” said Jim Falk, President Emeritus and Interim CEO. “These are leaders rooted in our local
business community but whose impact is felt worldwide. Steven F. Udvar-Házy’s story embodies resilience,
innovation, and the entrepreneurial spirit that continues to shape the global economy.”
The 2025 CEO Series is presented by Hillwood and PNC Bank.
