TRWD has issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) seeking development partners for the first phase of the 300+ acre Panther Island redevelopment district in the heart of Fort Worth. “This is an unprecedented opportunity to help shape one of the most significant urban redevelopment projects in Texas, in one of the fastest-growing cities in America,” said Leah King, President of the TRWD Board of Directors. “As Fort Worth’s front porch, Panther Island will offer a mixed-use environment that connects the city’s neighborhoods in a unique waterfront community.
The developer solicitation comes as several major initiatives continue to build momentum across Panther Island. In mid-2026, TRWD will begin construction on the next section of the Panther Island Canal System — a key feature that will create a distinctive pedestrian waterfront and set the stage for future development on the island. In addition to construction activity, a slate of public programs and events are being planned to activate the island and bring people to the area ahead of major development. Property owners are also collaborating to establish a Public Improvement District (PID) that will fund ongoing maintenance, operations, and programming to ensure Panther Island remains a vibrant and well-maintained destination for years to come.
Together, these efforts reflect a shared commitment by TRWD and the City of Fort Worth to transform a once-industrial area into a lively, connected, and sustainable waterfront district that celebrates Fort Worth’s unique character.
