Nurture & Thrive 2.0 Event Addresses Black Maternal Health Disparities in Tarrant County
In recognition of Black Maternal Health Week (April 11–17), the Community Healing and Mental Health Project (CHAMP), hosted in partnership with BRAVE/R Together and Center for Transforming Lives, will present Nurture & Thrive 2.0—a community-centered wellness experience designed to support, educate, and uplift Black mothers and families across Tarrant County.
Black Maternal Health Week is a national observance that raises awareness about the persistent disparities impacting Black women and infants. In Tarrant County, public health data continues to show that Black mothers and infants experience significantly higher mortality and health complication rates compared to other racial and ethnic groups—underscoring the urgent need for culturally responsive care, education, and community-driven support.
Nurture & Thrive 2.0 is designed to provide families with both meaningful education and tangible resources that support maternal and infant wellness.
Participants can expect:
Access to maternal and mental health resources Doula support and education on birth advocacy Educational discussions on maternal wellness and navigating healthcare systems Gun safety education and free gun safety locks Safe sleep and medication safety education for infants Family-centered activities including a Kidz Corner and Dads & Doulas space Maternal wellness experiences including mini maternal massages
Families will also receive essential baby items while supplies last, including:
Free diapers and wipes sponsored by Viola’s House Pack ’n Plays to support safe sleep practices Diaper bags and additional baby care items
“Our goal with Nurture & Thrive is to create a space where Black mothers feel seen, supported, and resourced,” said Lachelle Goodrich, Executive Director of CHAMP. “Addressing maternal health disparities requires both awareness and action. This event brings families together with trusted community partners while equipping them with the knowledge, tools, and resources needed to care for themselves and their children.”
The event will bring together healthcare professionals, nonprofit leaders, doulas, mental health providers, and community organizations dedicated to improving outcomes for mothers, infants, and families throughout Tarrant County.
Through collaborative partnerships, Nurture & Thrive 2.0 aims to strengthen maternal wellness, empower families with education, and increase access to culturally responsive care for underserved communities.
