UNT Health’s Ronald Makumbi Named UNT System Student Regent

Ronald Makumbi, a Doctor of Pharmacy student at UNT Health Fort Worth, recently was appointed by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to serve as the student regent on the UNT System Board of Regents

Makumbi will serve a one-year term through May 31, 2027. As student regent, he will represent the interests of students across the UNT System while attending and participating in UNT System Board of Regents meetings and business. Applications for student regent are annually solicited through student government organizations and forwarded to the governor by the chancellor for final appointment. The student regent position is open to undergraduate and graduate students within a university system.

Makumbi earned a Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington and is pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree at UNT Health. During his undergraduate years, Makumbi focused heavily on academics before he wanted to become more involved in leadership and student advocacy. Encouraged by the impact student leaders had on their peers, he began taking on leadership opportunities in pharmacy school. He served as a student ambassador and co-curricular chair before being elected president of his pharmacy cohort during his second year.

Makumbi currently serves as executive president of the PharmacyStudent Association during his third year at UNT Health. He said he hopes to continue strengthening those skills while serving as student regent and helping ensure student voices across the UNT System are heard.
