Free banner program returns to honor local veterans for the third year and launches this year’s virtual Wall of Honor
Fort Worth, Texas — Along Camp Bowie Blvd., history has a way of lingering in plain sight. It lives in the century-old storefronts, the red Thurber bricks, and in the very name of the boulevard itself — a reminder of Fort Worth’s deep military roots that date back to World War I. This summer, that history will once again take center stage as the Camp Bowie District honors the men and women who served our nation through the return of its Hometown Heroes program.
Beginning July 1, Camp Bowie District, Inc. will install veteran tribute banners on the District’s light poles along the six-mile corridor while launching a new virtual Wall of Honor that shares the stories behind the faces. Together, the physical display and online experience will create a month-long celebration of service, sacrifice, and community pride.
Last year, the District recognized 40 Fort Worth veterans by displaying banners at several intersections along the boulevard. This year’s program builds on that tradition by giving each selected veteran a dedicated place on the digital Wall of Honor Homepage, where family members, friends, and community supporters can learn about their service and contributions. “We are so proud to present this year’s class of veterans to the community,” said Lydia Guajardo Rickard, executive director, Camp Bowie District Inc. “The response to this program has been overwhelming, and the support that Fort Worth has for our veterans is evident in the registration response.”
Throughout July, Camp Bowie District will spotlight featured veterans across its social media channels, connecting residents to engage with the Wall of Honor and share the stories of those who answered the call to serve. This program is offered free of charge to applicants and honorees through the generous financial investment of businesses along the boulevard. This year’s program sponsors include Higginbotham, Valor and ICI.
To culminate the program, each veteran will be honored on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, at an intimate reception where they and their families will receive their personalized banners. Reception sponsors also include the offices of the City of Fort Worth City Council members, representing District 7, Macy Hill, and District 3, Michael D. Crain.
“The generosity of our sponsors has afforded us the ability to champion this initiative at no cost to our applicants,” she added. “This year we are able to add the Honor Reception to personally thank the veterans and their families with the support of our District 7 and District 3 city council members.”
