FORT WORTH, Texas — Filmmaker Brey Browne will premiere his debut feature film, Cinematic Nothingness ( https://sfn-productions.com/cinematic-nothingness), on Sunday, July 26 at the historic Texas Theatre as part of Oak Cliff Film Presents.
Created entirely through improvisation, Cinematic Nothingness began as an ambitious filmmaking experiment in 2020. With no script, no predetermined story, and no roadmap for where the film would go, Browne set out to discover whether a feature film could emerge organically through the creative process itself.
After sitting unfinished for several years, Browne returned to the project just six months ago, determined to finally bring it across the finish line. The result is a fully improvised experimental comedy that explores creativity, filmmaking, and the unpredictable journey of trying to make something out of nothing.
The film follows a filmmaker attempting to make a movie with no script, no plan, and no idea what it’s about, only to discover that the chaotic search for a story gradually becomes the story itself. What began as a personal creative experiment ultimately evolved into Something From Nothing Productions’ first feature-length narrative film.
Produced by Fort Worth’s Something From Nothing Productions, Cinematic Nothingness also serves as a celebration of North Texas independent filmmaking. Featuring a cast of local actors and filmmakers—including Brey Browne, Ashton Campbell, Rachel Napolitano, Aaron Payton, Ryan Serr, Joe Bannister, Chris Gardner, Anthony Milton, and Codi Putman—the film was shot throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth area, including scenes filmed inside the Texas Theatre itself.
The world premiere creates a fitting full-circle moment, returning the film to the very theater where portions of it were made. Audiences will watch scenes unfold inside the same historic venue where they were originally filmed, adding another layer to the film’s self-referential spirit while celebrating the North Texas creative community that helped bring the project to life.
“Cinematic Nothingness started as a joke and slowly became something much more personal,” said Browne. “What I thought was a movie about making a movie eventually became a movie about the creative process itself—the uncertainty, the absurdity, and the persistence it takes to finish something you believe in.”
For Fort Worth-based Something From Nothing Productions, the premiere marks an exciting milestone as the company’s first narrative feature film, building on a body of work that includes commercial campaigns, documentaries, and branded storytelling while expanding into independent narrative filmmaking.
