Over the past five years, through a combination of strategic expansions and organic growth, BDO USA has grown faster than any other national accounting firm.

Expanding from $618 million in revenue in 2012 to $1.41 billion in 2017, the firm now has more than 60 offices nationwide. But even as it more than doubled total staff size during that time, BDO has reduced its physical footprint in existing markets through the rollout of its Exceptional Workplace strategy.

Exceptional Workplace is a flexible office strategy that allows a collaborative work environment that serves different working styles across BDO practice groups and generations. In addition to encouraging teamwork and maximizing productivity, the strategy has paid dividends in recruiting and keeping staff, while providing efficiencies that improve the firm’s bottom line.

Earlier this year, BDO USA opened its newest Exceptional Workspace, relocating from southwest Fort Worth to 12,044 square feet in downtown Fort Worth at 301 Commerce St., Suite 2000. Pacific Construction was the local general contractor on the project.

“The new office design truly gives us an opportunity to move forward as a team,” said Tax Office Managing Partner Brad Goonan in a BDO newsletter. “By bringing the audit and tax groups closer together on one floor – along with the open workspace design – we’ve greatly increased our ability to collaborate and communicate.”

Assurance Office Managing Partner Brent Horak said there are several advantages to the new space.

“Already, we’re noticing happier people and a better office culture overall. Plus the downtown location brings us closer to our networking and referral sources, which is great for business.”
