Chambers of Commerce across Collin County have partnered to form the new Collin County Employers Health Plan Cooperative.
Under revised federal regulations, associations, including chambers of commerce, can now offer health insurance to their member businesses, the organizations said in a news release.
Through the Collin County Employer Health Plan Cooperative, the affiliated Collin County chambers will give small businesses the buying power and flexibility of a large business.
Eligible businesses must be located in Collin County, have two to 50 employees, and be a member in good standing of one of the participating chambers of commerce.
Participating chambers of commerce include Allen Fairview Chamber, Celina Chamber, Farmersville Chamber, Frisco Chamber, McKinney Chamber, Plano Chamber and Wylie Chamber.
With seven participating chambers of commerce, the Collin County Employers Health Plan Cooperative has truly been a group effort.
“The Allen Fairview Chamber was approached by a member broker who brought this opportunity forward for us and all the Collin County chambers,” said Sharon Mayer, CEO of Allen Fairview Chamber.
“As we moved through the process, we solicited input from the Plano Chamber, as well as other area chambers. It was our goal to make this the best possible opportunity for the small businesses in Collin County. We are all pleased with the outcome and excited to offer this member benefit,” Mayer said in the release.
As of November 2018, the plan was available through insurance brokers or agencies that are members of the participating chambers of commerce. The plan is inclusive of prescription, maternity, preventative care, mental health, substance abuse, and hospital coverage. Additionally, participating businesses could potentially enjoy cost savings of up to 15 percent, the news release said.
Collin County’s population is 940,000 plus and growing and more than 485,000 people are employed within Collin County. The participating chambers of commerce in the Collin County Employers Health Plan Cooperative represent more than 3,500 businesses and organizations that employ 300,000 plus North Texans, the news release said.
