Fruitcake fraud: Ex-Texas bakery official also guilty, nearly $17M fraud

DALLAS (AP) — A former Texas fruitcake company executive has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for embezzling nearly $17 million from the company.

A federal judge sentenced former Collin Street Bakery controller Sandy Jenkins in federal court in Dallas on Wednesday. U.S. District Jude Ed Kinkeade also sentenced Jenkins’ wife, Kay Jenkins, to five years’ probation and ordered her to complete 100 hours of community service and submit a formal written apology to the bakery.

The former executive pleaded guilty in May 2014 to single counts of mail fraud, money-laundering conspiracy and making a false statement to a financial institution. His wife pleaded guilty to a money-laundering conspiracy count.

Jenkins earned less than $50,000 annually when he stole company funds for the couple’s lavish lifestyle of private jets and expensive cars.
