Mansfield-based Klein Tools has acquired General Machine Products Co. (GMP) of Trevose, Pennsylvania, a worldwide supplier of specialty cable placement tools and equipment.

GMP is a third-generation business owned and operated by the Pfundt family since 1936. It is primarily known for its premium quality cable lashing machines, cable blowing equipment and other specially designed tools for the utility, data and telecommunications markets, Klein said in a new release. GMP also has a subsidiary and facility in the United Kingdom, CBS Products, that was also acquired as part of the transaction.

Klein Tools acquired substantially all the business assets of GMP. No additional specifics of the asset transaction terms were disclosed.

Klein is a fifth-generation company founded Klein was founded by Mathias Klein in 1857, initially supplying pliers to the telecommunications and electrical industries.

In 2011, Klein opened the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center in Mansfield, dedicated to the deployment of cutting edge manufacturing processes and advanced research and development, the company’s website history said.
