Longtime Dallas-Fort Worth banking and community leader John Gavin has announced his retirement at the end of the month.

As Wells Fargo’s community bank region president for Dallas-Fort Worth, Gavin will continue serving the company, working to ensure a smooth transition of leadership across the region, according to the bank.

“For 30 years John has devoted his time and effort to the company, our team members and our community,” said David Miree, Wells Fargo’s Lead Region President for Texas. “We are most grateful and wish him and his family the best.”

Gavin will be succeeded by Scott Wallace and Gary Hudson, who have been named to the newly-created position of region bank president and will continue to oversee the DFW-East and DFW-West markets, respectively. Wallace previously served as area president for DFW-East since 2003, reporting directly to Gavin and responsible for 1,040 team members and 88 branches. Similarly, Hudson previously served as area president for DFW-West since 2003, reporting directly to Gavin and responsible for 1,030 team members and 76 branches.

“The DFW Metroplex is an important market for Wells Fargo. We have a strong and experienced local leadership team in place with Scott and Gary. I am proud to see them in their new roles and am confident they will continue to serve their team members, customers and communities with the same thoughtfulness and professionalism they’ve shown over the past 14 years as my direct reports,” said Gavin.

A 40-year banking industry veteran, Gavin began his career at First Wichita Bank in 1978, where he progressed to the role of executive vice president. He joined Wells Fargo in 1987 and advanced to a variety of management positions before being named to his current role in 1997, where today he is responsible for over 2,000 team members and oversees the operations of more than 160 Wells Fargo branch banking offices across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Gavin has been actively involved in the local community during his tenure. He is a past chairman of the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce and is currently serving on the boards of directors of the Southwestern Exposition & Livestock Show and the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association, as well as on the advisory board of Trinity Habitat for Humanity in Fort Worth. In addition, he is a member of the Dallas Citizens Council and the Visiting Committee for the Amon Carter Museum.

Gavin has received numerous awards for his work in the financial industry during his career. These include the Fort Worth Area Bankers Association’s Outstanding Banker of the Year award, and the US Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce Legacy Award in recognition for his many accomplishments in the banking sector, his professionalism and his strong commitment to the community through volunteer service.

A native of Wichita Falls, Gavin earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Texas Tech University and is a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University. Gavin plans to enjoy his retirement spending time with his wife of 43 years, his four children and his 11 grandchildren.
