A bank with several area locations – Community Trust Bank – is changing its name to Origin Bank.
Ruston, Louisiana-based Community Trust, with more than a century of history in that state as a chartered bank, and assets of more than $3.8 billion, made the change on Friday, Oct. 9.
“Throughout our history, our bank has continued to evolve to better represent our customers’ changing financial needs,” said Origin Bank CEO Drake Mills. “We’ve changed our name, but we’re not changing who we are. Our promise to customers will always remain the same—to make every customer feel like the only customer every time.”
The bank has banking centers in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. It has two locations in Tarrant County and, according to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., was the 20th largest bank in Tarrant County in 2014, with local deposits of $211.8 million. Grant James is the regional president for the bank, which has its headquarters at 500 Throckmorton St. downtown.
For existing bank customers, it will be business as usual – all account numbers, PINs, routing numbers and other account information will remain the same. Also, ATM cards, debit cards, credit cards and checks will continue to function normally. The rollout of its new name will not affect the bank’s normal business operations, according to bank officials. .
Customers can find more information at the bank’s new website. Changes to signage at all of Origin’s 41 banking centers will continue in the coming weeks and months, according to bank officials.
“Our name change is not the result of being sold or merging with another institution,” said Mills. “It was a strategic decision to differentiate our brand. There are a number of banks with ‘community’ or ‘trust’ in their names. Origin is now a name we can trademark and distinctly call our own.”
Community Trust was not the bank’s original name. That was Bank of Choudrant in 1912. Origin offers a variety of financial services, including incentive-based checking, mortgage refinancing, business loans and equipment financing. Origin Bank will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Community Trust Financial Corp., a privately held financial holding company. – Robert Francis
