Tandy Leather Factory Inc. of Fort Worth has reported March 2015 sales of $7.1 million, up 1 percent compared to $7.0 million in the same month in the previous year.
“Our March sales were a little soft, primarily because we are running tight on inventory,” said president and CEO Jon Thompson in a news release.
Product delivery has slowed due to what Thompson called “issues” with West Coast ports.
“We didn’t feel the effects in 2014 because we took delivery of so much product early in the year. We anticipate that our April sales to be affected, as well, while the port is returning to normal operations,” Thompson said.
The company’s Retail Leathercraft division saw March sales rise 7 percent to $4.5 million compared to $4.2 million in the same month in the previous year. The 79 comparable stores’ sales were up 8 percent for the month compared to the same period in the previous year. Two stores opened since March 2014, adding $63,000 to the monthly sales tally.
Meanwhile, sales for Wholesale Leathercraft reached $2.3 million for March 2015 compared to $2.5 million in the same month in the previous year. Same-store sales were up 6 percent compared to the same month in 2014. Year to date, the division posted sales of $6.7 million, down 2 percent from sales of $6.9 million in the same period last year.
Sales for the company’s International Leathercraft division rose 2 percent, from March 2014 sales of $319,000 to $324,000 in the same month this year. Year to date, the division’s sales dropped 8 percent, reaching $955,000 million, compared to $1.0 million in the previous year.
Tandy Leather Factory Inc. sells and distributes leather, leatherworking tools, do-it-yourself-kits and many other products.
