Texas governor to have skin grafts

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas Gov. Greg Abbott will spend the night in the hospital and undergo skin grafts on his feet after suffering second- and third-degree burns on his feet and both legs below the knees.

Abbott’s office says he’ll undergo skin grafts Tuesday at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio to repair damage on his feet after coming into contact with scalding water last week. After the procedure, he’s expected to be discharged and return to Austin.

The Republican’s office says he was found to have a minor skin infection after going to the hospital Monday.

Abbott will not attend Tuesday’s memorial service for the slain Dallas officers; his wife will go instead.
