Texas Comptroller Susan Combs said today that state sales tax revenue in March was $2.09 billion, up 5.6 percent compared to March 2013. “The growth in sales tax revenues was led by business spending in the oil and natural gas mining, wholesale trade and construction sectors,” Combs said. “Collections from restaurants were also strong. This marks 48 consecutive months of growth in state sales tax collections.” Combs will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts their April local sales tax allocations totaling $554.5 million, up 6.2 percent compared to April 2013.
The sales tax figures represent February sales reported by monthly tax filers. Locally, Fort Worth reported a 5.57 percent increase for February, hitting $8.8 million in sales taxes. Arlington was down slightly by 1.9 percent with 46.4 million in sales tax revenue.
