Wells Fargo, for 22 years a tenant in one of the Fort Worth North Side’s most recognizable buildings, is moving to new digs later this year.
The bank, currently in the former North Fort Worth Bank building at 2315 N. Main St., plans to build a branch nearby at 200 N.E. 28th St. across from Billy Bob’s Texas.
Construction will begin this summer, and Wells Fargo and its 23 North Main employees hope to be in their new quarters by early fall, Joe Stroop, a Wells Fargo spokesman, said.
The 6,000-square-foot branch will be larger than other new Wells Fargo branches, typically 4,000-5,000 square feet, Stroop said.
“There’s just a lot of business to be had in North Fort Worth,” he said.
The branch will include an attached drive-through, unlike the North Main branch, which has a separate drive-through across a street from the building.
“It will be more convenient to the customer,” Stroop said.
The new branch, which Wells Fargo is building on a 1.13-acre site, also will have walk-up and drive-through ATMs, and other services currently offered in the North Main, such as mortgage and financial advice, Stroop said.
The 6,000 square feet will be less space than Wells Fargo occupies at the North Main building, which it shares with another tenant, Stroop said.
The North Fort Worth Bank built the North Main building in 1969. It later became a branch of Central Bank & Trust. Wells Fargo bought Central Bank & Trust in 1992.
