FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Authorities say one person has been critically hurt and two others suffered lesser injuries in a scaffolding and construction elevator accident in downtown Fort Worth.
Fort Worth Fire Department spokesman Mike Drivdahl said it appeared a construction elevator on the outside of a building partially collapsed around midday Wednesday.
“Crews were dispatched during the lunch hour to the 300 block of Throckmorton for a report of a structural collapse,” Drivdahl said.
Investigators will try to determine what caused the accident that left bricks and other building debris scattered along a sidewalk next to the multistory building.
Drivdahl said one person was in critical condition and transported to a hospital. He said two other victims were treated at the scene. Officials didn’t immediately provide additional details on the injured.
Fort Worth police blocked off several nearby streets following the accident.
The construction company doing work at the building, Sundance West, was Whiting-Turner Contracting Company.
Sundance West is the luxury apartment built in 1991 ago as the revitalization of downtown Fort Worth began. Owners Sundance Square said last year they would be removing and updating the familiar red brick of the exterior after frequent issue with the exterior. Residents had to move from the building and, recently, longtime restaurant Daddy Jack’s Lobster & Chowder House, closed.
