Allen woman survives Mount Everest avalanche

ALLEN, Texas (AP) — A North Texas woman who survived an avalanche triggered by a 7.8 -magnitude earthquake in Nepal is trying to find her way back home.

Danielle Banks, an Allen High School graduate, sent a text message to her mother Friday saying that she experienced an earthquake as she was making her way up Mount Everest. Bank’s mother, Sharon, did not hear from her daughter again until two days later.

The 22-year-old sent another text message Sunday morning to her mother letting her know she was safe. According to Banks’ mother, she began her 11-hour journey to the bottom of the mountain Sunday evening, but she does not yet have a way of making it back to the United States.

Banks went to Nepal after graduating from Texas A&M University in December last year.
