Jerry Jones is known as a dealmaker who likes to bet big, so who better to make a deal with than a casino.
The Dallas Cowboys today announced WinStar World Casino as the Official Casino of the NFL Club. The partnership makes the Cowboys the first NFL team to announce an official casino designation. Winstar is among the largest casinos in the world.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones unveiled the partnership to national media outlets during a press conference at The Star in Frisco.
“The Dallas Cowboys take great pride in aligning themselves with the best brands in the world,” said Dallas Cowboys owner, president and general manager, Jerry Jones. “It is a privilege to stand shoulder to shoulder as partners with such a prominent entertainment brand like WinStar World Casino.”
Located on the Texas-Oklahoma state line along Interstate 35, WinStar World Casino has become a preeminent gaming and entertainment venue. In the past 15 years, the world-class casino and resort has been drawing patrons and visitors from across the nation.
Chickasaw Nation Gov. Bill Anoatubby said that the tribe has always had a close connection with Dallas and North Texas.
“Hundreds of Chickasaws live in the Dallas area and the Dallas Cowboys are a vital part of the community,” said Anoatubby, “While this partnership is a great business deal that is only one of the reasons we are excited to be involved with the Dallas Cowboys and the Jones family. Jerry Jones is committed to enhancing the quality of life of Arlington youth and others in the community, which aligns closely with our mission to enhance the overall quality of life of the Chickasaw people”
This is the first time in league history that a casino has been granted official designation as a team’s exclusive partner, granting exclusive use of a team’s logos and marks. An amendment passed by league owners created the opportunity for casinos to obtain official partnerships with NFL teams.
In May, the Supreme Court cleared the way for states to legalize sports betting by striking down a 1992 federal law that effectively banned sports betting in most states.
Jones said the NFL’s efforts to sort out the high court’s ruling could be “months, years in the making.” He said he was excited to be “standing here that we don’t have to wait years in the making.”
The league will soon have a team in Las Vegas with the Oakland Raiders set to move.
WinStar is near the Texas-Oklahoma state line about 70 miles north of Cowboys headquarters in Frisco, a suburb north of Dallas.
