DFW-based Callbox Storage expands from the Lone Star State, partners with new business

Callbox Storage is a Dallas-Fort Worth-based full-service storage company that was established just over two years ago. After recently expanding to Houston and Austin, Callbox is now ready to leave the state of Texas and open a facility in Phoenix, Arizona.

Co-owners Dan Slaven and Kyle Bainter said in a news release that plan to announce additional expansions both in and outside of Texas soon.

“I definitely think that we have something here that we can scale to 50 states,” Bainter said in a previous interview with the Business Press.. “It’s just a matter of when, because we’ve really found a heavy response rate to what we’re doing.”

Like traditional storage units, Callbox charges a monthly rate for storing the items, but what makes this company different is its free pickup and free delivery of up to five items monthly.

Though Callbox doesn’t do the packing, it does just about everything else for customers. It inventories a customer’s boxed contents or other items, loads them into Callbox trucks and takes them to its storage facilities.

Through this service, Callbox aims to disrupt the storage industry.

With Callbox, customers use an online portal to manage the size of the space they need, their inventory and their deliveries/pickups.

Using an initial $300,000 out-of-pocket investment, Bainter and Slaven — who have backgrounds in real estate accounting, investment, and development — created Callbox to ease the pain points associated with traditional storage.

“There’s the rented truck, time, enlisting friends and family for help,” Bainter said about the process. “Then when you want something back, you have to go back and dig around for it … We figured there has to be a better way to do this.”

In addition to their expansion news, Slaven and Bainter also recently partnered with Kansas City-based mattress company Prime Sleep for Callbox Storage to handle the company’s inventory management and delivery.

The pair recently raised $5.25 million in their last round of financing.
