SAN ANTONIO (AP) — The board of the financially struggling San Antonio Symphony has suspended the rest of the 2017-2018 season after performances through Saturday.
A contract with musicians expired at the end of December. Concerns had been raised last year about an underfunded pension plan.
A meeting Wednesday night led officials with the Symphony Society of San Antonio to end the season early, amid concerns of a possible shortfall of more than $2 million.
Details on the fate of the San Antonio Symphony weren’t immediately released, although a statement says it’s not the end of the symphony. Messages left for administrators of the San Antonio Symphony, which was founded in 1939, weren’t immediately returned Thursday.
Concerts planned for Friday and Saturday are part of San Antonio’s Tricentennial Celebration.
