Interim GameStop Corp. CEO Daniel A. DeMatteo has assumed all the executive duties of former GameStop Corp. CEO J. Paul Raines, who has resigned to focus on his health and family, the company reported in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Raines’ employment with the Grapevine-based company will end in mid-March 2018. In 2014, Raines was treated for a cancerous brain tumor.

The company announced Nov. 14 that Raines had a reoccurrence of his previously disclosed medical issue and was seeking treatment.

The video game retailer’s board of directors then appointed the company’s executive chairman, DeMatteo, as the company’s interim CEO. DeMatteo, one of the company’s co-founders, will continue to serve as executive chairman and director. In the past, DeMatteo has served as the company’s CEO and in a variety of board and executive roles since November 1996.
