Fort Worth’s Lillie Biggins inducted to Texas Women’s Hall of Fame

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas first lady Anita Perry and Secretary of State Nandita Berry are among the newest inductees to the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame.

Gov. Rick Perry joked Tuesday that he dated one member of this year’s class during his last time overseeing the ceremony. Anita Perry was recognized for leadership as the longest-serving Texas first lady in history.

Democratic state Sen. Senfronia Thompson, the longest-serving female in the history of the Texas Legislature, was also inducted four decades after first being elected to the House.

Other inductees were Lillie Biggins, president of Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth and board chairwoman of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport; retired Col. Kim Olson; Texas Women’s University Chancellor Ann Stuart; domestic violence activist Deborah Tucker; Texas appellate Judge Carolyn Wright; and Joanne Herring, who actress Julia Roberts portrayed in the 2007 film “Charlie Wilson’s War.”
