Higginbotham expands to Odessa

Higginbotham, a Fort Worth-based independent insurance broker and financial services firm, and family-owned Edgmon Insurance Agency of Odessa announced on March 13 the merger of their operations. Higginbotham has more than 20 locations in Texas and is in expansion mode by partnering with other brokers in the state that add to its geographic scale and service capabilities.

The union with Edgmon Insurance extends Higginbotham’s reach to Odessa. Edgmon Insurance is a third generation, family-owned agency that was founded in 1986 by Pauline Appel. The agency was purchased by her son, Tim Edgmon, in 1996 and began operating under its current name. Edgmon works with his wife Theresa, their son Ryan, daughter Amanda Owens, and a staff of seven providing commercial and personal lines of property/casualty insurance.

“The family atmosphere at Edgmon Insurance epitomizes Higginbotham’s culture,” said Higginbotham President/CEO Rusty Reid in a news release. “We put a lot of care into choosing firms to partner with that embrace our business model of providing the best array of products and services to clients and the best workplace to employees. Our team feels like one united family, and in this case, it really is.” Edgmon will continue managing the firm as Edgmon Insurance Agency from the location it has occupied at 4800 E. University Blvd. for four years. Higginbotham was founded in 1948 and ranks as the nation’s 32 largest independent insurance brokerage firm based on revenue, according to Business Insurance, July 2013.
