The U.S. Open is not just for golf and tennis. It’s also for beer.

A Fort Worth production brewery has medaled three times at the 2017 U.S. Open Beer Championship. HopFusion Ale Works won two silver medals and a bronze medal. This news comes on the heels of the brewery starting to can its beer.

“This is one of the biggest beer competitions in the nation,” said the co-owner of HopFusion Ale Works, Matt Hill, in a news release, “and we are thrilled to win medals for three of our signature series beers.”

The news release said that there were 6,000 beers in over 100 different styles from all over the globe submitted to the championship this year. Out of these beers, the ones that won from HopFusion were:

- FWBP Digital Partners -

– Feisty Blonde: silver medal (honey beer category)

– Fur Slipper: silver medal (cream/sweet stout category)

– Hairpin: bronze medal (rye/roggen beer category)

Additionally, HopFusion won Best Beer at the Burgers, Brews and Blues event at the Fort Worth Food and Wine Festival. The brewery is located in Near Southside, but has beer on tap at 160 North Texas locations.

The news release said that the Feisty Blonde and Hairpin are the two beers currently being canned.

“This means our beer will be available in grocery stores and liquor stores in the coming weeks,” said co-owner of HopFusion Macy Moore in a news release. “It’s been a journey to get to this point, but we’re excited to finally be in cans.”

Found only in the HopFusion taproom, the Go Easy, HopFusion’s session IPA, has been given label approval and should be out in cans in the next month or so.

“We plan to can the Fur Slipper, our imperial milk stout, and Steampipe, our black rye IPA, for release this fall,” said Hill in a news release. “Perfect football drinking beer.”

HopFusion’s taproom is open Tuesday through Sunday and is located at 200 E. Broadway in Fort Worth. The taproom serves its signature series of beers as well as 10 to 15 rotating seasonal or one–off beers found only in the taproom.

There is also live music on Friday and Saturday nights, trivia on Sunday nights and karaoke on Wednesday nights. Additionally, there is also beer yoga every first and third Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and it is taught by Urban Yoga’s Jennifer Malloy.

The news release says the signature series includes:

– Feisty Blonde – a honey vanilla blonde

– Hairpin – a rye pale ale

– Steampipe – a black rye IPA

– Fur Slipper – an imperial milk stout

There are also beer flights of four 4oz pours available and the news release says that one popular flight is the “Ex–Girlfriend” which features:

– Feisty Blonde – a honey vanilla blonde

– Feisty Brunette – a honey vanilla blonde fermented with blackberries and blueberries

– Feisty Redhead – a honey vanilla blonde with hibiscus and cherries

– Thorny Blonde – a honey vanilla blonde fermented with prickly pear

HopFusion also serves beer infusions such as

– The Summer Shandy – Feisty Blonde and Lemonade mix

– The Feisty Slipper – Feisty Blonde and Fur Slipper mix

– The Ruby Red – Feisty Redhead and Orange Blossom Special (HopFusion’s witbier) mix

“From the get-go, we wanted to focus on creativity – in all forms – not just with brewing. To us, the experience of drinking beer is just as important as the beer itself,” said Moore in a news release. “So, creativity is infused in all levels at HopFusion, from the beer to the taproom to the artists that perform. It’s what makes us who we are.”
