Visitors to a Human Library are given the opportunity to speak informally with “people on loan”; this latter group being extremely varied in age, sex and cultural background. How does it work? On Tuesday, April 15, 2014, from 11am until 1pm, the Riverfront Cafe’ becomes the Human Library! People willing to share their stories of discrimination or marginalization sign up to be BOOKS. (The first 20 BOOKS will receive a free event T-Shirt!) People who want to hear those stories and learn about other people become READERS by CHECKING OUT a BOOK. READERS may ask BOOKS anything they like, but they may not challenge or threaten the BOOK in any way or risk having borrowing privileges revoked. The Human Library enables groups to break stereotypes by challenging the most common prejudices in a positive and humorous manner. To apply to be a book, or for more information, stop by the library or go to This free event is open to students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
