Leah King joins United Way as SVP of development

Longtime Fort Worth businesswoman Leah King has been appointed senior vice president of development at United Way of Tarrant County.

King, formerly vice president and marketing director at Northstar Bank, will begin her new duties on April 18.

“Leah has a deep knowledge of the community based on relationships developed by working with a variety of people and community organizations over many years,” said United Way President and CEO Tim McKinney. “That, along with her executive leadership at local companies and her experience in leading their United Way campaigns, will provide us with valuable perspective.”

King started her Fort Worth roots with RadioShack Corp. advancing in positions in community relations, advertising and marketing, and investor relations. More recently she served as senior director of public affairs at Chesapeake Energy Corp. and senior vice president of marketing and communications at Holland Services.

King has been associated with United Way of Tarrant County for many years. She is a founding member of the United Way of Tarrant County’s Women’s Leadership Council and has served as its Women’s Fund Development Committee chairman. She also has served as a director on the boards of the Child Study Center, Junior Achievement and Communities In Schools of Greater Tarrant County. She currently serves on the Cook Children’s Medical Center board. She is an active member of Women Steering Business and the Fort Worth Chapter of The Links, Incorporated.

She has volunteered on numerous committees and advisory boards, including those of Circle Theatre, Catholic Charities Refugee Services and Brighter Outlook Inc. She is a member of the Leadership Fort Worth 2010 class and Leadership North Texas 2011 class.

King is married to Barry King, who, along with his brother, owns the award-winning gourmet sauce company Brothers Sauces.
