Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County has received a $40,000 grant from the all-female philanthropy group, Women Inspiring Philanthropy, to create an initiative called “Women of Tomorrow.”
The initiative encompasses a redesign and upgrade of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County’s current girl-targeted programming, TEAM and SMART Girls, which are designed to meet the developmental needs of girls spanning ages 8 to 18, the organization said in a news release.
“We are grateful to Women Inspiring Philanthropy for their support of this initiative,” said Daphne Barlow Stigliano, CEO & President of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County. “The safety and wellbeing of our members is our No. 1 priority, and this program is designed to help our girls and young women deal with the unique challenges they face.”
Teen pregnancy has been a critical issue for decades, but the organization said that young women are facing greater modern risks.
In Texas at any point, there are 79,000 victims of sex trafficking, and according to the Texas Statewide Sexual Assault Prevalence Study, 4.2 million Texan women have experienced some form of sexual assault in their lifetime.
It is glaringly apparent that in today’s world, young girls face countless dangers and Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County has created an innovative, and strategic program that targets these particular issues in Arlington, the news release said.
“Women Inspiring Philanthropy is happy to partner with Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County in order to offer such a unique and dynamic program that serves young Arlington women in the most transformative and impactful time of their lives. Women of Tomorrow addresses key issues our young girls face in the community, and it has been so inspiring to see the change we’ve been able to support in these girls’ lives,” said Linda Dipert, the Women Inspiring Philanthropy president.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County dates to 1926 and has 10 branches and 15 school sites and is the largest Boys & Girls Club in the state of Texas. It serves more than 23,000 youth each year with programs that reach some of Tarrant County’s most at-risk youth.
Women Inspiring Philanthropy is a donor-advised fund through the Community Foundation of North Texas made up of women seeking to transform lives in the Arlington area through high-impact and lifelong giving. The only membership requirements are to be female and donate $1,000 each year, the news release said.
