Miss Fort Worth earns Miss Texas title

Miss Texas

Miss Fort Worth Shannon Sanderford rocked the crowd and wowed the judges at the Eisemann Center in Richardson on Fourth of July, singing and dancing her way to the title of Miss Texas and a trip to Atlantic City to compete in the Miss America Pageant in September.

Sanderford, 23, a native of Coppell and a 2014 graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a degree in journalism and advertising, won the crown on her third try after competing in the state pageant as Miss San Jacinto in 2013 and Miss Duncanville last year.

Sanderford performed a medley based on the Meghan Trainor song Dear Future Husband in the talent segment of the competition and tied with Miss Park Cities Madison Adams for top honors in the pageant’s interview phase. Adams was first runner-up, with Miss Richardson Jessica Barrera, Miss Dallas Madison Fuller and Miss DFW Devin Kerns rounding the top five.

Miss Texas will take on contestants representing the other 49 states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia in the Miss America Pageant at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, with prelimary competition getting underway Sept. 8. The finals will be televised at 8 p.m. Sept. 13 on ABC (WFAA Channel 8).
