Moody Foundation commits $50 million to UT Austin

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — University of Texas officials say the school is getting a $50 million commitment from the Moody Foundation to establish the Moody College of Communication.

The school calls it the largest endowment for the study of community at a public university anywhere in the country. The gift is also one of the largest ever awarded by the Moody Foundation, which makes grants primarily in Dallas and Austin with an emphasis on education, social services and community development.

The University of Texas endowment will go toward new curricular development, recruiting graduate students for advanced studies, research and building and refurbishing classroom space and lecture halls. Some money also will go toward undergraduate research and projects.

The endowment was announced Monday with a campus celebration scheduled Nov. 7.
