NBC 5 / KXAS-TV is partnering with the NBCUniversal Foundation for the second annual 21st Century Solutions program, a grant challenge for Dallas-Fort Worth non-profit organizations implementing new and innovative programs.

The effort seeks to support initiatives addressing emerging and ongoing community challenges in new and creative ways.

“It is our responsibility to serve our North Texas communities, and we do so in a number of ways, from providing daily news and information to alerting viewers when severe weather may damage their homes or threaten their lives,” said Tom Ehlmann, president and general manager of NBC 5 in a news release.

“Our partnerships with local non-profit communities are another way for us to reach out and touch the people in our viewing area, especially people in need of help,” Ehlmann said.

The competitive grant program is open to eligible 501(c)(3) organizations implementing programs that address emerging or ongoing community challenges in several areas. Those include civic engagement, education, jobs and technology.

Organizations wanting to compete in the grant challenge can review eligibility criteria and complete an application at www.nbcdfw.com by July 31, 2013.  Three North Texas organizations will win grants totaling $100,000 to be announced by the end of the year.
